Seeking stability

FOR Jordan Astley, finding an affordable roof over his head has changed his outlook after nearly going homeless when his mother was unemployed for more than a year.

The 18-year-old recently moved into Swan Hill’s newest rooming house on Gray Street.

Currently six people occupy the premises, each with their own numbered and locked pantry and shelf in the fridge.

“I’m from Wodonga, but my mum, step-father and I were living in Yarrawonga for three-and-a-half years, they lost their jobs so a contact here put them onto a new job in Swan Hill,” Mr Astley said.

“They got a job at the abattoir, but only for a year before they got sick of it.”

All the while, Mr Astley was at school with his mother unemployed and barely managing to provide.
