Ultima finals fever

IT WILL be a proud Ultima team that takes to the football field on Saturday in Murrabit as they battle for the Golden Rivers senior premiership tomorrow.

Ultima will be hoping for a hattrick this year when they meet Murrabit and club secretary Kenny Symons said the club was pumped and feeling positive.

“The boys have put in a big effort and it’s obviously the highlight of their year,” he said.

But Mr Symons also said the Grand Final was important to the entire community, past and present.

“Many associated with the club have moved off the farms and into Swan Hill but we still feel a huge connection to Ultima,” he said.

“Its a huge boost in regards to morale, not just for the club but for the school, the current Ultima families and the large surrounding catchment.”

Also representing the club in finals are the A Grade, B Grade, and B Reserve Grade netball teams as well as the Under 17 and 14 football sides.

In a dose of Nostalgia, 80-year-old club trainer Glen Winderlich turned up to training on Tuesday in an old football jumper.

If the Under 17 side is successful, it will be the first time they have won a premiership in exactly 50 years.
