Swan Hill Police Custody Officer (PCO) Sally Anderson knows the importance of basic human rights and the welfare of people — no matter their situation.
The former aged care worker from Swan Hill is one of more than 400 PCOs recruited to serve in 22 of Victoria’s busiest stations.
Victoria Police is recruiting a further three PCOs to Swan Hill in the next 12 months
The deployment will free up officers so they can return to frontline duties.
Ms Anderson said PCOs are responsible for overseeing the management of persons in cells at police stations.
“We ensure the health, wellbeing, safety and supervision of persons in custody, staff and visitors, liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding the management, transport, offsite attendance or video links for persons in custody,” she said.
