The Salvation Army has decided to change the way it engages with the Swan Hill community.
Since the end of November, the Salvation Army’s corps, or community church, has been closed and will integrate into other churches.
Although the church may have closed, Captain Judy Brown of The Salvation Army Swan Hill Corps said both the welfare centre on Beveridge Street and the thrift shop on Campbell Street will remain open.
“It’s always sad when a church closes,” she said.
“But due to declining numbers over many years, this has been coming for a while.”
In the next few months, a community development worker will be employed by The Salvation Army to engage with council, schools and community organisations to understand how they can best serve the community.
