Local schools excel

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has released statistics of how every secondary school in the state performed in last year’s Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).

Local schools Swan Hill College and St Mary MacKillop performed well, although some results were slightly down from previous years.

When it came to students achieving study scores of 40 and over, Swan Hill College results were at 3 per cent, exceeding last year’s result by 1.6 per cent. St Mary MacKillop College’s results were slightly down from previous years at 4.6 per cent, from 7.3 per cent.

The median study score (out of a possible 50) for Swan Hill College students was 25, while it was 29 at St Mary MacKillop College.

For VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning) students, 75 per cent of units were completed at Swan Hill College and 91 per cent at St Mary MacKillop.

VET (Vocational Education Training) students excelled at both schools with 90 per cent units of competence completed at Swan Hill College, while 96 per cent were completed at St Mary MacKillop College.

Of this year’s VCE graduates, 77 per cent of Swan Hill College students have applied for tertiary places, while 94 per cent have applied from St Mary MacKillop College.

Smaller schools around our region proved that small cohorts made a difference with VCE results.

One in 10 study scores achieved by Year 12 students at Tyrrell College were 40 or above (10.4 per cent), while the school’s median study score was 29.

Of those who completed VCE, 92 per cent of students have applied for further study.

The median study score for Manangatang P-12 College was 27, while it was 24 at Robinvale College.

Most students will receive their first round offers on January 16.
