An alleged violent scuffle at a Swan Hill car park last Saturday has left a man in hospital with serious facial injuries.
Swan Hill police said a fight broke out between two men, known to each other, at a car park on Beveridge Street about 4.30pm.
A 57-year-old man was admitted to Swan Hill District Health with facial injuries, Leading Senior Constable Tania Peters said. A 45-year-old has been charged with recklessly causing injury.
No ambulance was called to the scene.
Lead Snr-Const Peters declined to say what led to the assault.
The senseless attack in broad daylight comes after figures released by the Crime Statistics Agency last week for the 12 months to December 2017 showed a 9.5 per cent rise in crimes against the person in the 3585 postcode.
Assaults and related offences increased by 6.8 per cent, from 174 offences to 186 — the equal highest number of assault offences in four years.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the assault between 4.30pm and 5.10pm.
