Boga biker’s lucky escape

A LAKE Boga man had a lucky escape after his motorcycle hurdled over an unused channel, coming to rest on its side on Wednesday morning.

The man in his 50s was discovered unconscious next to his Harley Davidson trike at the intersection of Prince and Willox Roads by a local farmer who made the urgent call to triple zero just before 10am.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find the man in a serious condition with facial injuries and suspected arm and leg fractures.

Police told The Guardian the circumstances around the accident remained unclear with the rider unable to recall the incident. Senior Constable Wayde Palmer said it appeared the man had “gone straight through” the T-intersection, with officers measuring a 22-metre skid mark at the scene.

“The trike has jumped an old, disused channel on the other side, coming to rest just before the vineyard, he was very lucky in the end,” Snr-Const Palmer said.

Senior Constable Steve Bower said police did not believe any other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Snr-Const Bower said the trike was fitted with the appropriate safety equipment and the rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

“Police encourage all riders to do the right thing and outfit the bikes with the necessary safety equipment,” he said.

The man, who was transported to Swan Hill District Health, was last listed in a stable condition.
