Retail’s new lease on life

THERE’S an exciting buzz around town as movement and new tenants continue to pop up in Swan Hill’s retail sector. This week, word began to spread that a new tenant had been sourced for the centrally located Priceline building. But Wood and Co Managing Director Brian Wood said the speculation was a little premature.

“What I can confirm is that we have a new tenant going into 393 Campbell Street and a new lease agreement for Shop 1, 148 Campbell Street,” he said.

“264 Campbell Street is also currently under offer so there is a lot of positivity around the sector.”

Mr Wood hairdresser Sweeney Todd will make the leap from Brown Street at the South side of town to 393 Campbell Street.

Mr Wood said the Priceline store was an exciting opportunity for a retailer given it’s location and the heavy foot traffic it experienced.

With the centrally located Tri-Star building also on the market and the recent sale of the winning trifecta – Dick Smith, Rockmans and The Reject Shop – Swan Hill’s retail sector is an important space to watch.

The recent pop-up furniture store Visual Appeal added a new dynamic to the mix with the store setting up temporarily in the Dick Smith building while works were completed on it’s main store located in Kerang. The possibility of using a vacant store as a rotating pop-up location is an idea that could kill three birds with one stone by filling empty stores, providing diversity to the passing foot traffic and allow temporary prime location and exposure to stores who are placed in other parts of Swan Hill’s shopping district.
