Labor on notice: Locals call on Labor to match hospital election pledge

THE Swan Hill Needs a New Hospital campaign committee says with a commitment from the state Coalition, last it is time for Labor to come to the table.

The committee and community members gathered beneath the Swan Hill clock tower last Friday for a photo, yelling their demands into the camera lens: “It’s our turn now”.

Also on show was a cake provided by the committee, divided in half to represent the major parties.

The blue half held a tick, representing $44 million pledge from the state Coalition, on Labor’s red sat a question mark.

Committee chairperson Les McPhee told The Guardian they would be taking their fight to the doorstep of both Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Health Jill Hennessy.

“This is just to show community support again, to make sure we get the message through to Labor, we have the election promise from the Coalition but we have nothing from Labor,” Mr McPhee said.

“They say they govern for the whole of Victoria, this is their opportunity to show it and give us a hospital.”
