THE Swan Hill community walked as one last Friday, raising awareness for mental health during the annual community walk.
Everyone encouraged each other to speak up about mental health on the final day of mental health week.
Students, business representatives, local clubs and associations and the general public joined at the Swan Hill Town Hall to begin the walk, which was also followed by the opening of the mental health mind, body and soul art exhibition.
The sun was shining as formalities began with Deb Chaplin and Imparja Pettit opening the walk with a welcome to country and didgeridoo performance.
Swan Hill Mayor Les McPhee preceded by addressing the stigma of mental health and the need for Swan Hill to stand together to improve a willingness of people within the district to seek help.
“It is important that we work together and check on our family members, friends and check in with ourselves,” Cr McPhee said.
“Don’t be afraid to ask for help.”
