Raising bucket-loads: Drenching for MND

SEVEN local candidates endured an icy cold saturation at Saturday’s Market Day, raising close to $3000 for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

MND is a progressive disease involving degeneration of the motor neurons and wasting of the muscles.

Rebecca Barnes and Steve Hogan from Wood and Co decided it would be a good opportunity to support Team Mez to help raise funds during Market Day celebrations.

Team Mez was initiated after Swan Hill local John Spong’s wife, Mary, died from MND in May last year.

Since the team was created, Mr Spong, with the help of other community members, have done whatever they can “to help someone else suffering from MND.”

A freezing ice bucket drenching to raise awareness and funds being one of them.

The first cab off the rank to get drenched was Wood and Co managing director Brian Wood, raising $318.

Mr Spong took the drenching nice and slow, making Mr Wood suffer for a longer period of time, much to the crowd’s amusement.

The second nominee to be ice-bucketed was owner of Tan’s Tuckerbox and Genie In A Bucket, Tan Hovenden, who raised a total of $235.
