Road turmoil: Two nearby accidents on highway

MURRAY Valley Highway was a minefield for early morning drivers on Wednesday with two incidents reported near Lake Boga within three hours.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Hayes Road just before 9am following calls one vehicle had flipped following a collision with a second car.

Police, ambulance and firefighters arrived to find a Toyota Twin Cab Hilux on its roof.

The driver, a 40-year-old female from Swan Hill, was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to Swan Hill District Health (SHDH).

A spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria said the woman sustained an injury to her leg but was transported in a stable condition.

SHDH confirmed the driver presented at emergency but was not admitted for treatment.

Sergeant Roberta Barry said it appeared speed and inattention “may have been contributing factors” in the crash.

“A white Holden ute collided into the rear of a Toyota Hilux, causing the Hilux to flip over,” she said.

“The offending driver was an 18-year-old male from Kerang.”

Sgt Barry said the driver of the utility was unhurt.

It is believed the driver of the Hilux had been attempting to turn into Hayes Road when the accident occurred.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

“Police are still investigating and it is alleged the driver may be charged with driving offences,” Sgt Barry said.

The incident was the second police were called to along the road that morning.

Sgt Barry said officers responded to an incident along the highway near Bailey Road around 6.30am.

“A truck travelling was west on the Murray Valley Highway in the Lake Boga area when it appeared to have mechanical issues,” she said.

Sgt Barry said the cause of the problem was found to be the rear wheel of the B-double’s rear trailer.

“No persons were injured and no other vehicles were involved, the driver did a very good job to maintain control of the B-double,” she said.

Sgt Barry said police were investigating the cause of the fault.

Officers remained on scene until after 9am, with mechanics required to attend to repair the vehicle enough to allow it reach the nearest repair shop.
