Rams domination

AFTER claiming Weekend Pennant Division 1 glory at the weekend, Murray Downs Bowls Club backed it up on Tuesday with a Midweek Pennant Division 1 flag.

Again Racecourse Bowls Club was the opponent, but this victory was far more comfortable than their Saturday afternoon triumph, with the Rams prevailing 61 shots to 37.

Judy Wilson and her team of Garry McCaig, Cecilia McCaig and Mick Tempini had a day out, winning their rink 32-14.

It was a much tighter affair in the midweek Division 2 grand final – once again between Racecourse and Murray Downs – with the game going right down to the wire.

Scores were locked at 42 apiece heading into the final end, before Racecourse lead Clive Power produced under pressure with a couple of excellent bowls.

With momentum acquired, skipper Elaine Lawry held firm with a captain’s bowl at the death to confirm a 45-42 victory for Racecourse.

In the weekend grand finals, Lake Boga claimed Division 3 with a close 69-65 win over Racecourse.

It was a shock loss for Racecourse, who were undefeated all season but fell at the final hurdle.

Boga lost two of the three rinks, but Terry Haw’s crew of Ron Atkinson, John McCormack and Helen Jobling saved the day, smashing their rink 33-18 in a win that will be remembered for a long time at the club.

After enduring a season of floods and game cancellations, Moulamein’s Division 4 team gave their club something to smile about, winning the flag with a 57-40 victory over Lake Boga.
