Festival a Moulamein celebration

THANKS to a generous grant from Murray River Council and the New South Wales Government, Moulamein is able to hold a Celebrate Moulamein Festival.

A chance for the whole community, not just Moulamein, to come to an event, which will celebrate the vibrancy of the Moulamein and district community.

This will be a mostly free event for the whole community of Moulamein and district.

The festival will be held on the evening of Friday, February 17, and all day and night of Saturday, February 18.

The festival will get off to a flying start with a family cinema night on the Friday at the Moulamein Recreation Reserve. This will be an open air family movie night, featuring the movie Around the World in Eighty Days.

A chance for everyone of all ages to sit down on a picnic rug, blanket, bean bag or chair on the smooth grass of the footy oval. No glass please.

The Moulamein Pre-School will be selling movie refreshments, including hot dogs, fairy floss, chips, popcorn, lollies, icy poles and cold drinks. There will be something for everyone.

After the fun family Friday night, it will be up early on the Saturday morning to greet the sun, with 7am yoga at the Moulamein Lake.

A healthy breakfast at the lake will be provided for free by Moulamein RFS from 8am. This is followed by a colour run, or walk, around the lake.

From 10.30am to 3.30pm on Saturday, the festival action moves to the Moulamein Heritage Village. The heritage village is located on a seven-acre site, a prime location on the entrance to town.

It now has Jeraly Woolshed, Dharagoon school, Werai Horse stables and Moolpa blacksmiths shop, significant local rural heritage buildings, which have been relocated and reconstructed on the site.

Activities also include the enviro education children’s zoo, train rides around the perimeter of the village, face painting, jumping castle, local small movie screenings in Jeraly woolshed and live bands during the day, including Cat and Clint and Jason Davies.

More fun activities at the heritage village include a puppet show, a photo booth, gin tastings and many food stalls, including woodfire pizza, the ice cream man and a donut stand.

The old drop log Werai horse stables will be transformed into a country bar for the day, with beverages being sold from the old horse stalls. Comfortable seating and rustic wooden tables will be set up in the outdoor area beside the stables.

Vintage vehicles and farm machinery from the Jeraly woolshed collection will be invited to do a start up on the day.

The old Dhuragoon school building will be set up as a health and wellness retreat, offering free hair cuts and massages.

Over at the Moulamein public school building, skin checks will be available. I think you have to pay for these, but it would be well worth it as you do not have to travel to get an expert skin check.

From 3.30pm, activities at the heritage village will start packing up. The Werai stables bar will remain open for visitors until 6pm.

From 6pm, buses will be available for visitors wishing to dine and dance out at the new Moulamein Racing Club pavilion. This will be an inaugural event for the new trackside pavilion.

Moulamein Racing Club has received an array of sponsorship for the event.

This evening spectacular, titled Dancing in the Dust, will be a great way to finish off the celebration of Moulamein Festival.

It will feature live entertainment, with the popular big sound of the Baker Boys Band. Northys fine catering will do dinner and Fosseys gin bar will feature.

Tickets are available online, at Moulamein Newsagency and Trend Toys n Outdoors Barham.

Get in quick as I do not know how many tickets are available.

This great event is available to everyone, not just Moulamein residents.

Come over and help us celebrate our town and district.

Minister visits Moulamein

MINISTER Ben Franklin visited our Moulamein Heritage Village at the weekend to announce they have secured a $228,000 grant to help our very hard-working volunteers start the final stage of the village and add the finishing touches.

Thank you, minister, and the NSW Government for your support of our town.

Division 4 keeps top spot

OUR Division 4 mob kept up their winning streak with one rink up, one rink down, up overall.

They cannot be put off top spot this week when they play Murray Downs at home.

Our Division 1 mob had one of each this week. One rink up, one rink drawn and one rink down. Unfortunately, down overall.

But it proves we are not far from getting back in the four next year as Racecourse is well up there on the ladder.

Division 1 also goes up against top of the table, Murray Downs, at home.

This is a great way to finish the season off with both teams at home.

We will be having pizzas cooked by our Moulamein club chief Andrew after the game.

Come in a bit earlier and check out the talent. You may get keen to join us next year.

Permits to burn available

YOU can now burn off if you can find anything that is dry enough to burn.

The usual rules apply. No burning of timber, no burning on weekends or public holidays, you must be in attendance at all times and you must have a permit and tell the white shirts 24 hours before you light up.

All the usual stuff.

Fishing report

STILL nothing.
