Tuesday, May 24
· Member for Mallee Anne Webster held her seat with a higher margin, even as electors savaged the Coalition elsewhere, handing government to Labor. Dr Webster said she would be open to a role in the shadow ministry, but only if it benefited Mallee.
· Eleven junior fire brigade members from Swan Hill performed well against 46 other teams at the junior volunteer fire brigade urban state championships at Mooroopna. Two teams competed in the Under 14 division and one team in the Under 17 division.
Friday, May 27
· Police seized 18 registered firearms, ammunition and an illegal silencer from a property at Nyah. A 49-year-old man was expected to be charged with numerous offences, including failing to store guns and ammunition properly, after police found the gun safe was not secured to the ground or fitted with an alarm or security system.
· Member for Mallee Anne Webster said she would nominate to contest the deputy leader role after the Nationals began discussing a potential leadership spill. “It would be very valuable to have a Victorian woman in the role,” she said. Dr Webster lost the vote to NSW Senator Perin Davey.
Tuesday, May 31
· Hairdresser Elli Carpinteri and the Paper Scissors Rock Hair Lounge team created a quirky Facebook ad in a bid to attract new staff. The humorous video highlighted that Ms Carpinteri and another experienced team member were preparing to go on maternity leave in October, and featured cameos by some regular clients.
· Swan Hill could be in for a wetter than usual winter, according to the Bureau of Meteorology’s three month climate outlook. The bureau said this was due to the slow weakening of the La Nina and higher rainfall would increase the risk of flooding in already saturated catchments.
