Sean Hunter – 2022 Rookie of the Year

Kerang’s Sean Hunter is this year’s LJ Hooker Rookie of the Year for the Central Murray Football Netball League.

The announcement of his award last Sunday night capped off a stellar year for the slick young midfielder-forward, who played every senior game with the Blues this season and kicked 21 goals along the way.

Hunter was named in the best players six times this year, with five of those outstanding games in the last seven home-and-away matches of the season. Clearly this hot form bodes well for a red hot grand final performance tomorrow from the 18-year-old.

He has a well-rounded game that has allowed him to fill many important roles in the Kerang side, most recently playing as a small forward and midfield rotation. Sean has speed to burn, elusive awareness, elite skills and is very good overhead for his size. This makes him a very hard match up for opposing sides and he is sure to give Cohuna big headaches.

Aside from a great record with the Pioneer program in the Under 16, Under 17 and Under 19 grades, Sean has long shone with his club, winning many awards both on and off the field since his early junior years. A worthy Rookie to join the long list of talented young local players to win this award over its long history.
