Pre-polling opens in Swan Hill

PRE-polling centres opened yesterday ahead of the May 21 federal election.

Over the next two weeks, eligible voters can cast early ballots at more than 500 centres across the country, including one in Swan Hill.

Reasons to vote early, or to cast a postal vote, include being more than 8km from a polling place, travelling, being unable to leave a workplace to vote on election day or if someone is seriously ill.

According to the Australian Electoral Commission, 120,339 people are enrolled to vote in the Mallee electorate.

The most represented age groups locally are for those 70 and over, followed by 60 to 64-year-olds, and of Mallee voters, 61,000 identify as female and 59,200 male.

Across Australia, 96.8 per cent of eligible voters are enrolled for the 2022 election.

Locally, pre-polling centre will be open until election eve at Stradbroke Hall, corner of Stradbroke Avenue and Rutherford Street, Swan Hill.

On election day, there will be eight voting centres across Gannawarra, open from 8am to 6pm.
