Workshops to boost rural communities

BALRANALD and Euston will host The Grants Guy Roadshow event on March 24, giving participants valuable insight into securing grant funding.

The Balranald event will be held at Balranald Theatre Royal in Market Street between 5.30pm and 8.30pm and will focus on community capacity building.

The Euston event will be held between 10.30am and 1.30pm at Euston Club with a grant writing workshop on offer.

Presented by Keith Whelan, better known as The Grants Guy, the workshop tours are making multiple stops in other regions of the Mallee in March.

His stop in Balranald will give community groups and charities insights on how to increase sustainability and build livable, prosperous communities.

Topics covered at the workshop include volunteer management, using community strengths, making local connections, identifying opportunities and effective community leadership.

Volunteers and community groups are often the lifeblood of regional and rural towns, and this workshop aims to assist groups to better plan and advocate for government grant funding.

It provides advice on how to advocate to government, maintain momentum when event planning and where to source funding opportunities.

Mr Whelan said he became known as The Grants Guy when he stated writing and proof reading grants for organisations in 2012.

“The mantle has stuck so much that people now ring asking to speak to The Grants Guy,” he said

“I am very proud of my new name and the work I have done since the genesis of the business for numerous organisations throughout Australia.

“I have worked with not-for-profits, universities, government departments and agencies, sports clubs, Aboriginal groups, arts organisations and educational bodies which has given me a great insight into the needs for funding in Australia.

“It’s a chance to educate my clients on what grants exists and how to apply.”

Places are free but numbers are limited for each workshop.
