Lakeside setting for official ceremony

LAKE Boga Lion’s Club will hold an all-community event on Sunday afternoon to celebrate Australia Day and the achievements of Lake Boga residents, groups and businesses.

Hosted on the Lake Boga foreshore, the event will begin at 11.30am with a display of vintage cars and an official welcome to the event at midday.

Attendees will then be invited to share a barbecue lunch provided by the Lion’s Club and served by the Lake Boga Sea Scouts before the official celebrations begin.

Lake Boga Sea Scouts will conduct the flag raising procedure to the national anthem and guest speaker Sally Bethune will talk about her journey as a Lake Boga dairy farmer.

Presentations to Lake Boga’s Citizens of the Year will be awarded across three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Organisation/Event of the Year.

These will be presented by last year’s winner, Steve matthews.

Other formalities include the lake Boga Community Garden Club members presenting a tree or shrub to every student completing their primary school education and heading into senior schooling.

Swan Hill Brass Band will provide music and special mention will be made to honour the milestone birthdays of Pam Street, who will turn 90, and Sheila Potts, who turned 100.

Lake Boga resident Suzanne Donnelly said the event would be a relaxed atmosphere and a great chance for the community to catch up for a chat and meet new community members.
