SWAN HILL

THE ladies club championship final is being played today at 3.00pm, with reigning club champion Judy Husson out to defend her title against Lee Tompsett.

Our Friday Frolic will also be played at 3.00pm, with names to be entered by 2.30pm.

The weather will not be quite as hot as last Friday when 10 brave bowlers still enjoyed a short social game, but were not lucky enough to crack the jackpot, which now sits at $162 and well worth having a crack at.

Everyone is welcome to come along to bowls and the social activities in the clubhouse that follow this afternoon.

Our Swan Hill division 1 team made their trip to Moulamein and with the early starting time to beat the heat last Saturday.

They played a close match all day to have a win by 13 shots overall, with A.Shields rink winning by eight shots, G.Scandalora’s rink gaining seven shots and B.Husson’s team losing by just two shots to A.Worboyes.

Swan Hill appreciated the 10.30am refreshment break and the afters at the end of the day, many thanks to the Moulamein team.

Division 2 had an equally successful day at Racecourse, defeating Racecourse 4 by five shots, with R.Poole, S.Tompsett, D.Daly and D.Tompsett carrying the team, defeating V.Lindsay by 19 shots, while A.Hill went down by one shot to D.Doran and G.Clark lost to F.Devereaux by 15 shots.

Both teams play at home on Saturday, with the one’s playing Lake Boga for the second time around and looking to gain more than the three shots they lost by in their first meeting, while division 2 will face off against Murray Downs 4 for the first time this season, with Swan Hill aiming to hold second position on the ladder.

Midweek pennant was a mixed bag, with division 1 unable to gain a rink against opponents, Racecourse 1, going down by 28 shots overall.

Next week, the one’s will be across the bridge to Murray Downs 1.

Division Two had a more successful day on Tuesday, scraping home against Murray Downs 4 by four shots, with R.Poole and J.Thompson’s rinks both winning by two shots, against K.O’Bree and D.Deighton.

They will be challenged by Lake Boga 2 down by the lake on Tuesday.

Club Members were saddened to learn of the passing of former member, Gladys Bryent and extend their sympathy to Glady’s family.

Gladys enjoyed bowls for many years at the Swan Hill Bowls Club and featured in a number of winning pennant teams and was a willing worker who also took a leading role on match committee.

Midweek pennant was played at Murray Downs on Tuesday in very humid conditions and considering the amount of recent rain we have had in the district, the greens were good but slightly heavier than usual.

Murray Downs 3 proved why they are on top of the ladder, winning both rinks against Tooleybuc.

T.Armstrong’s rink was close and held a slight lead during the game, but in the end went down by six shots, while P.Gardner’s opposition proved too strong, winning by 16 shots, with the final result seeing Murray Downs 3 win 57 to 35.
