Public toilet fires

A FIRE was started in the sink of the unisex disabled cubicle in the McCallum Street public toilet block across from Swan Hill Town Hall about 7.35pm last Friday.

Swan Hill CFA attended and extinguished the fire after a passer-by called 000.

It was yet to be determined who started the fire.

About 3.15pm the following day, during total fire ban, a small explosion was made with enough force to cause significant damage to the porcelain toilet in the next cubicle at the McCallum Street public toilets.

There was another attempt to start a fire in that same cubicle which did not take.

The offender or offenders were not identified.

Swan Hill criminal investigation team were investigating and would like to hear from anyone who has knowledge of the incidents.

Bridge traffic chaos

THE Swan Hill Bridge joining NSW and Victoria across the Murray River from McCallum Street was blocked for about two hours when a B-double truck broke down on the Swan Hill side about 9pm on Monday.

Several attempts were made to rectify the problem but on-site mechanical works were required before the vehicle could be mobilised again.

Failed fluid test

A DRIVER tested positive to methylamphetamine when police conducted a preliminary oral fluid test on King George Street at 8.45am on Tuesday.

The 46-year-old Cohuna man was issued with a fine and six-month loss of licence.
