Motorcyclist fatality in night

A MALE motorcyclist was found deceased by passersby about 7.20am on Warracknabeal-Birchip Road in Warmur on Monday morning.

Swan Hill Police Acting Inspector Brian Hansen said the 59-year-old Berriwillock resident collided with a tree, but investigations are still underway to determine the cause of the collision.

“It appears the collision occurred during the night and has gone unnoticed until daylight hours,” he said.

“We are following up with friends and family and canvassing some residents in the area to try and determine if anyone has seen or heard anything that can assist in our investigation of what occurred.”

At the time of writing, 41 lives were lost on roads this year compared to 32 lost in 2024.

“It’s disappointing, and I always say that one life lost is one too many,” Insp Hansen said.

“Some quick analysis has shown us that 60-70 per cent of those fatalities have occurred within 20km of the deceased’s home.

“Whether that’s an indication that they’re turning off and their concentration lapses as they near home, you have to concentrate until you reach your front door and you’re giving your loved ones a hug.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash or with footage is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at crimestoppersvic.com.au
