Marong netball season preview

MARONG’s A-grade was so close to the holy grail in 2023 the players can still feel the frustration.

One game from the grand final and coming up just one goal short (49-50) to Mitiamo in the preliminary final was an agonising end to a hard-fought season.

So in 2024 the club is looking to one of the game’s most decorated stars to take it that one extra step.

A five-time winner of league fairest and best awards across three leagues, Robyn Cunnington brings an impressive tally of experience as coach of the A-grade team.

Cunnington’s previous coaching stints include Birchip-Watchem, Huntly, Marong, and also at inter-league level for North Central and Wimmera Mallee.

This year she will double up as coach of Marong’s A-grade and B-grade teams.

The Panthers will be determined to improve on last season’s tally of 11 wins and a draw across the home-and-away series.

Also on the Panthers coaching panel are Georgie McGrath and Kim McCullough, C-grade and C-reserve; Brittany Hercus, 17-and-under; Erin Stewart, 15-and-under; Bianca Bourke, 13-and-under; Lee Franklin and Kate Larkins, Minis.

The Panthers are on their courts at Malone Park for the round one showdown with Mitiamo on April 13 – a rematch of that preliminary final which will tell the team just how the new season may unfold.
