MURRAY DOWNS MEN

LAST Saturday’s event was our Christmas Turkey “4 player teams’ competition”, the format being the team’s three best stableford points, scored per hole, becoming the team’s score for each hole.

The winning team, with a score of 122 points, was James McLean, Graeme Cox, Glenn Palmer and Rick Rundell-Gordon, getting over the line, by a single point, from the team of Mitchell Croft, Maxie Carroll, John Threadgold and James Downing, with each member of these two teams, receiving a dressed turkey.

The nearest the pins were taken out by William Collicoat on the 2nd, Rob Hinton on the 5th, Steve Cameron on the 11th and Ross Hastings on the 15th.

Sunday’s competition was a singles medley stableford event, with 55 players taking part.

Allan Spencer (24) recorded the day’s best score of 43 points, to be the leader in division 2, just ahead of Mason Forster (32) with 39 points.

Division 1 was taken out by Matt Loats (8) with 40 points from Steve Banks (15) on 39 points.

Other players required at least 34 points to be eligible for a ball.

Tynan Perry picked up 2 NTPs, on holes 2 & 11, Darian Male was the closest on the 5th as was Chris Grant on the 15th.

Last Thursday’s competition was also a medley Stableford event, played in three divisions.

Gerard Moloney (20) and Haydn Downes (37) recorded the day’s best scores of 40 points, with Moloney getting the nod for the major prize on offer.

Luke Doolan (8) was the leader in division 1 with 38 points, just ahead of Mathew Quaife (6) & Neville Brady (4) each with 37 points.

Division 2 went the way of Gerard Moloney (20) with his 40 points, from Rob Hinton (17) with 36 and Rick Rundell-Gordon (15) on 34 points.

Haydn Downes (37) was the best in division 3 with his 40 points, well ahead of Tom Wilkins (33) with 34 and Gerard Mackay (23) with 33.

The ball went down to scores of 31 points and better, whilst the NTPs were taken off by Luke Doolan, Ken Gregory, David Bourne & Chris Fordham on holes 2, 5, 11 & 15 respectively.


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

GEORGINA Douglas received an early Christmas present in the form of the December Monthly Medal at MDG&CC on Wednesday.

Fifty-nine women competed in the event and Georgina scored 69 nett from her 25 handicap to win her first ever medal.

Runner-up in Divison one was Eilleen Willox (26) 70 nett.

New golfer, Di Pinal (54) received her first golf trophy to win Division two with a score of 71 nett ahead of Jenny Lynas (28) 75.

Paula Pickert 71 nett and Shelley Wilkins 73 nett led the ball pool.

Tina King’s 29 putts won the putting competition, Paula Pickert won two nearest the pin prizes with the others going to Lisa Brady and Robyn Bett.

The team of Jude Simmonds, Marg Moore, Avis Shipsides and Eilleen Willox scored 116 points to win the annual Turkey fourball with the runner up prizes going to Ruth McAlister, Sue Davis, Virginia Allen and Cassie Barnett on 113 points.

The Golden Girls celebrated Christmas with a fun filled novelty event on Friday followed by Christmas lunch.

The title of Golden Golfer of the Year was awarded to Eileen Morath.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

On Monday, December 9, members, partners and friends came together to enjoy the annual Dads Army Christmas Luncheon, held in the Balcony Room at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club.

Two guests, Jan Mayhew and Wilma Steele are the partners of two members who have passed on, James (Jimmy) Mayhew, who ran Dads Army with the aid of Jan for many years, passed away recently.

Graeme (Steeley) Steele was also a big help to Jimmy, his right arm man.

Barry Bishop spoke about the input these people had put into running Dads Army, and now Barry Ingram has taken over the reins.

Barry Ingram presented various awards to members. Barry Bishop presented the Golfer of the Year Award and it went to Barry Ingram.

On Wednesday, members played the Front Nine, with Barry Bishop and Ray Frame coming in with 20 points, followed by Kevin Maddy on 19 points, Robert Deighton on 18 points, three on 15 points, Gavin Scown, Ian Dickson & Barry Ingram and Brian Devlin on 10 points.


TOOLEYBUC LADIES

OUR last day, we played nine holes on the three par course. It was a fun day.

Winner of the day was Ross Jennings with a fabulous 27 pts.

Runner up was Mary Robinson with 20 pts.

Third Place was Narelle Fraser on 18 pts.
