MURRAY River Council will continue under the leadership of Mayor Chris Bilkey until at least the council election in December.
At Tuesday’s mayoral election, Cr Bilkey returned to the mayoralty, while Cr Nikki Cohen retained her position as deputy mayor.
Both were re-elected unopposed.
The current council term ends on the rescheduled local government election date of December 4.
With nine councillor positions up for grabs, Cr Bilkey said a robust pool of candidates was needed to ensure a good cross-section of local voices.
“Local residents know their local community, understand what’s needed and the importance of a local voice in decision-making,” he said.
“It would be great for all our communities to have solid representation from right across the council, so I’d encourage anyone interested in nominating to jump online now and get ready for the nomination period.”
Candidate nominations are open from October 25 to November 3.
