Future unclear: Council restructure

SWAN Hill Rural City Council could be headed towards a restructure, with a number of jobs potentially on the line.

Chief executive officer John McLinden told The Guardian the council was “considering the alignment” of some positions and were in discussions with staff.

“This organisation is constantly reviewing structures and staffing needs to make sure they align with the needs of our organisation and our community,” he said.

“We are currently considering potential realignment of some positions, and staff are being consulted on this.”

Mr McLinden said employees were well protected and no final decisions had been made.

“We have an enterprise agreement that provides processes for the organisation to follow, and that offers protections for staff,” he said.

“With any review of structures, there is the potential for staff redundancies. I am still consulting with staff and no final decisions have been made.

“What I can say is that the objective of the current review is to make sure we continue improving our response to our communities’ needs, to efficiently deliver the projects and services they desire and deserve.”

Mr McLinden did not respond to questions around how many jobs would be axed or the reasons behind the restructure, or if the delivery of services would be affected by any job cuts.

It follows council’s decision to axe jobs at the Pioneer Settlement in October last year to “make efficiencies” at the tourist attraction.
