LGBTI Roadshow response a success

The first Swan Hill LGBTI Roadshow, initiated by Victorian Commissioner for Gender and Sexuality Ro Allen, wrapped up yesterday with community events around town.

“Swan Hill was the first town on this leg of the roadshow and has set the benchmark for other towns we’re visiting,” Ms Allen said.

“Everyone has been so welcoming and generous in sharing their stories and hospitality with us.”

Events that took place over the three days of the roadshow included a variety of workshops and roundtable discussions.

There was a welcome dinner attended by local stakeholders, and two information workshops — one for local government and one for the community — which were both well attended.

After a visit to Swan Hill earlier in the year, organisers said these workshops were far better attended and they saw many new faces.

This meant that people were more confident and motivated to come along.

On the last day of the roadshow, an action plan workshop was held at Mallee Family Care.

The workshop gave leaders of community organisations the opportunity to discuss what they can do to make Swan Hill a more inclusive place for members of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans Intersex (LGBTI) community.
