An Australian junior solo speedway motorcycle champion has returned to the region to chase more silverware on the eve of his senior debut.
Swan Hill teenager Declan Knowles, 16, took out the 250cc Speedway Championship earlier this year, in what experts described as a “dominating display”.
After living in Geraldton, Western Australia, for the best part of nine years, Declan and parents Kristy and Terry returned to the region last month to chase more tracks that could accommodate Declan’s advancement as a senior rider on 500cc motorcycles.

“My dad used to ride about 20 years ago and I rode bikes when I was younger, about 11, so he thought he would get me into speedway,” Declan said.
“I love the joys of winning, but there are challenges of keeping yourself feeling pumped when you’re racing.
“I try and stay calm and not socialise while I’m racing to maintain my focus and competitiveness.
