A MALLEE Eagles player has suffered fractures in his back in an injury which saw time called on his side’s match with Cohuna Kangas.
Lalbert player Nathaniel Kendell was attempting to take a mark when he backed into a pack, causing opposition players to fall on him.
The awkward fall appears to have fractured three vertebrae in his spine, with fears held for the player’s safety after the initial
collision.
The match was at a standstill while an ambulance was called to the Cohuna Recreation Reserve, eventually meaning the match would be called off with time running out.
Kendell was yesterday in hospital in Bendigo, and Mallee Eagles president Geoff Kendell said his son was doing okay.
“We are going through the process [of recovery],” he told The Guardian yesterday.
“Unfortunately it was just one of those things … we are having a run of injuries at the club.”
The match was called off with the Mallee Eagles leading Cohuna Kangas 4.1.25 to 3.3.21 five minutes into the third quarter.
The Central Murray Football Netball League were unavailable for comment yesterday.
