CRIME Stoppers this week began targeting Swan Hill in a two-week intensive Dob in a Dealer campaign to gather information about local drug dealing activity.
Following the success of the 2015 Dob in a Dealer program, Mildura and Swan Hill residents are again being urged to contact Crime Stoppers to confidentially report any information relating to people who may be bringing harmful drugs into the local community.
Australian-first campaigns held in Mildura, Swan Hill and Echuca during May last year resulted in a 100 per cent increase of information reports to Crime Stoppers, while a targeted cross-border campaign rolled out in August contributed to a 110 per cent increase.
There was a 168 per cent increase in drug-related information reports across the state during the entire campaign.
Swan Hill police Senior Sergeant Gary Hughes said Swan Hill needed a “whole-of-community” approach to stopping drug traffickers, particularly those of methamphetamine or “ice”, which was still on the rise in the community.
