HEATHER Hicks is a big believer in buying local.
And last Friday it paid off, as Ms Hicks’ entry was drawn as the first Swan Hill Buy Local campaign winner – bagging a $1000 Swan Hill Dollars prize in the process.
Although she has not yet decided where to spend her 1000 big ones , Ms Hicks was all smiles when collecting her prize from the Guardian office.
“I was shocked,” she said.
“I’m not normally a lucky lady, I’ve never won a raffle.”
Ms Hicks, who retired to Swan Hill 12 years ago, grew up in Robinvale before raising a family in Manangatang.
She says the thought of helping her hometown encouraged her to purchase the Buy Local book last week.
So far more than 2000 coupon books have been sold across Swan Hill, with many buyers eyeing the main prize – a 2015 Toyota Yaris Hatch, proudly donated by The Guardian.
The next Swan Hill Dollars prize winner will be drawn on Friday.
