SWAN Hill may be in for a mini-population boom, but our neighbours’ population will be on the decline, according to a new Department of the Environment, Land, Water and Planning study.
Victoria in Future predicts population growth for Swan Hill at 2000 people before 2031 — 133 people a year — while the Buloke Shire may drop by 1500 in the next decade and a half.
“I think it’s a good news story for Swan Hill,” Swan Hill council’s director of planning and development Brett Luxford said.
“There continues to be the creation of jobs within the municipality, and growth in agriculture.
“Being an agricultural centre, there will continue to be — and always be — growth there.”
