At first sight, a lucky perspective

THERE is so much we take for granted as we travel the long and winding road of life.

I remember a proverb told to me many years ago that went something like this: I used to complain that I had no shoes until I met a man that had no feet.

Unless you had met that man you might not dwell on this line that long.

Just recently I was to meet a young man that would change the way I see things.

Ben Pettingill is blind. He lost his eyesight unexpectedly at the age of 16.

The sight went in one eye first, and then the other, over a period of eight weeks.

It is a genetic disease which Ben was unaware of and it affects the optic nerve which means there is no cure or treatment at the present time.

Ben is now 19 and in passing when questioned on his condition he said with a smile “I’m just lucky I guess”.
