TEN candidates are poised to compete for one of Australia’s safest conservative seats at the 2013 federal election.
The deadline for candidate nominations in the September 7 election passed yesterday at noon.
The final list of candidates for the Mallee in the House of Representatives will be declared at the divisional Australian Electoral Commission office at midday today.
Meanwhile, those nominated for the Senate will be announced at the same time at the AEC’s Victorian state office.
With Member for Mallee John Forrest announcing his retirement at the upcoming election, competition has been fierce for the traditionally safe National Party seat.
