Much loved matron remembered

BARRY and Sue Steggall have donated several items to Swan Hill District Health that belonged to a former matron of the hospital.

Val Steggall was matron at Swan Hill Hospital for 14 years, and saw many changes during her time at SHDH.

“Val had collected a rosette from the top of the old tower which stood proudly at the front of the hospital for many years, and made a plaque in memory of this iconic Swan Hill landmark,” a statement from SHDH said.

Mr Steggall – a former Swan Hill councillor, mayor and local member – said he and his wife Sue were honoured to donate the items in Val’s memory.

The Steggalls also donated treasured artwork, Val’s matron’s cape, and a historical photo of the hospital from Val’s collection.
