OPENED FOR PLAY

SWAN Hill’s newest playground has opened in time for the school holidays and rush of summer visitors to the region.

Located at Riverside Park, the adventure playground swung its gates open for children and families last Tuesday.

The $850,000 project was funded by Regional Development Victoria, the Federal Building Better Regions Fund and Swan Hill Rural City Council (SHRCC).

Some of the playground’s features include an 8.7 metre high play tower, a 40-metre long double flying fox and a sand pit.

It also featured recycled materials from Pioneer Settlement, including an entrance gate and parts from the Pioneer Settlement Wharf.

There’s also plenty of shaded areas to sit and cook up a storm under the barbecue shelter.

The shelter features custom-designed Aboriginal artwork by Sandra Kropinyeri to “share traditional stories of our region”.

The new playground is located across from Swan Hill’s new skate park which was opened earlier this year.

Swan Hill Rural City Council mayor Bill Moar has welcomed the playground as an exciting addition to the growing list of attractions at Riverside Park.

“For many years the community has been asking council to make use of our region’s best asset – the river,” he said.

” We have been steadily delivering on projects to bring more people and more life to the riverfront.

“We’ve opened the new boat ramp, toilet block and skate park; the Yamagata garden is almost complete and this adventure playground will be a real highlight.”
