A Brownlow medallist has been recruited to help boost tourism in the Heart of the Murray. Retired Collingwood champion Dane Swan visited Swan Hill for two days last week to appear in television commercials that will air at a later date.
He was hosted by Swan Hill Incorporated at a small function at Pioneer Settlement, where young fans had their jumpers signed and photos taken with the 2010 premiership player and 2011 Brownlow winner.
“I’ve come up to Swan Hill to help with Swan Hill tourism and get people up here to see the wonderful sights and the hospitable people,” Swan said.
Swan Hill Incorporated marketing coordinator Julie Wiggins said Swan would appear in six 30 second commercials, with footage used for television and digital content.
“We expect to have the first one of two commercials up early in the new year,” she said.
Dressed the part for a warm summer’s day in North-West Victoria, Swan donned a ‘I used to be cool’ singlet, shorts and thongs with a baseball cap — the larrikin look he personified during his stellar 288-game career.
“There is a little more to do in this region then I expected,” the 33-year-old told The Guardian.
