ANTI-BUNNINGS sentiments promoted by a local business have caused friction in the Swan Hill community.
Blackboard signs advertising #the-f*@%ubunningssale were unveiled by Mitre 10-branded Swan Hill Hardware on Thursday.
The signs were placed around the stores exterior on Pye Street, and could also be seen by passers-by on the Nyah Road side of the store.
The signage comes a month after hardware powerhouse Bunnings opened the doors to its first Swan Hill store.
Mitre 10 Swan Hill owner Leigh Cowling told The Guardian the signs represented an “emotional message”.
“It’s my message, my emotion,” Mr Cowling said. “It’s not meant to upset anyone or provoke anyone.”
Reactions on The Guardian’s Facebook page were split.
Some praised the sales campaign and spoke out in support of Swan Hill’s small businesses, whereas others rallied behind Bunnings.
