Pennant support call

GOLFERS across the region are being called on to support the Northern District ladies pennant, after a Division 1 season which featured only two teams.

Murray Downs and Cohuna played a format similar to the Ryder Cup, with three rounds of different formats played to decide the winner.

Mary-Anne Davis, Barb Clark, Kathy Parkinson, Di Martin, Chris Warburton, Marg Moore and Sheila Beard eventually took out the title for Murray Downs, but it is hoped more clubs will support the next pennant season.

NDLGA president Sheena Gadsden said the six-week competition had been deemed successful by participants of the two Division 1 teams, but that the event needed to see growth.

“The girls that participated seemed to think it was successful. We’re holding a post-pennant meeting on Monday and waiting for further feedback,” she said.

“We’re hoping that some of the bigger clubs like Kerang and Barham might be able to come on board next year. Maybe Murray Downs could put in another side.”

Divisions 2 and 3 both had four teams, with Kerang and Lakeside the eventual champions.
