MURRAY DOWNS MEN’S
Stableford – Thursday, July 3
CRAIG Fletcher (9) started very strong on Thursday with a one over 37 off the stick on the front nine, before keeping it together on the way home to finish on 38 points as the overall winner.
Behind Craig in A Grade was Glenn Palmer (9) on 36 points and Ross Hastings (9) on 35 points.
In B Grade, Malcolm Talbot (17) on 37 points was able to hold off Christopher Knee (15) who finished just behind him on a countback with Alistair Ferrier (16) third on 34 points.
Nobody in the lower grades beat their handicap on the day, but Glenn Palmer, Robert Hinton, and Laurie Shipsides hit it close, taking out the nearest to the pin awards (with Glenn collecting two for good measure).
Stroke (Monthly Medal) – Saturday, July 5
IT was frosty with a slight breeze on Saturday morning as the field prepared to contest the monthly medal.
The afternoon provided even better conditions as the players sought to claim the July medal, with Speedy Frame (23) getting the best of everyone as nett low marker, scoring -3.
Jason Baird (9) was a close second on -2 in front of Barry Lacey (19) and Andrew Guy (21) who finished in third and fourth on the same score.
Rounding out the top ten were Dave Hogan (11) and Noah Starrs (2) on -1, Brian Elliott (14), George Sidorow (10) and Andrew Spitty (-1) even, and Sam Rovere (16) on +1.
Steven Kerr hit it to 50 centimetres on the 11th hole, which was made even more impressive by the tricky hole location.
Lion’s Club Charity Golf Day (4BBB Stableford) – Sunday, July 6
ALMOST 70 players turned up on Sunday for a barbecue and round of golf to raise money for a good cause, with the Lion’s Club, who support many great community initiatives, holding their annual golf day to raise money for their efforts.
Congratulations go to the pairing of Rob Merrett (22) and Justin Thompson (14) who won with 46 points, only just beating the second-placed pairing of Luke Hadfield (13) and Trent Hawkins (15), also on 46.
Tim Phillips (17) was aided by Adam Laughlin (3) in taking out third place, with the pair scoring 45 points.
Knockout Competitions (Singles and 4BBB Pairs)
WELL done to Dale Smith and Tim Phillips who have advanced to the next stage of the singles knockout competition as they patiently wait for the next round to unfold over the coming weeks.
Scott Mathiske and Jason Perry were too good for their opponents on Sunday, and Noah Starrs and Lleyton McLean were also successful in their match on the same day.
MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
MILDURA Health Fund sponsored an Ambrose in pairs event at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.
Twenty-two teams competed, with Carol Wiseman and Nadine Cox combining to score 81/67.25 to win the major prize of the Swan Hill gift cards.
The next best were the pairings of Georgina Douglas and Carolyn Zambelli who scored 70 nett and Jenny Lynas and Tamika Hogan with 71 nett.
The ball pool winners were Bianca Brasser and Sue Davis (71.5) and Maralyn Morrison and Barb Cadd (74.25).
Jan McEwan hit her tee shot within two metres on the par three, 11th hole to take out the jackpot, while Tamika Hogan was successful on the 2nd and 15th and Maree Thurwood hit a super shot into the 5th hole.
On Saturday, Olive Spitty, who plays off a handicap of -2, scored 71 nett to win ahead of Maralyn Morrison (28) with 74 nett.
Marg Moore and Mabel Spitty led the ball pool, while the nearest the pins went to Jenice Krahnert and Michelle Holt.
Kaye McAlpine and Heather Evans scored 43 points and were the winners of the Lions Club event on Sunday with 43 points, ahead of Jeanette Tucker and Bianca Brasser on 40 points.
Eileen Morath (18 points) and Jenny White (16 points) led the field of 19 women in the Golden Girls competition on Friday, with Sheila Beard winning the nearest the pin and nonagenarian Marie Cruickshank finishing as June’s golfer of the month.
MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY
ON Monday, July 7, members of Dad’s army played the back-nine, with Kevin Maddy returning the days best score of 17 points.
He was followed by Colin Hayward and Damian Kelly on 15 points and Robert Smith on 14 points, with the rest of the field finishing 12 points and below.
On Wednesday, July 9, members played the front-nine, with Kevin Maddy heading the field again with 17 points.
He was closely followed by Barry Ingram on 16 points and Colin Hayward on 15 points, with the rest of the field again on 12 points and below.
The weekly winner was Kevin Maddy on 34 points, with Colin Hayward finishing as the runner up on 30 points.
Kevin and Colin were followed by Robert Smith on 25 points, Ian Dickson on 23 points and Damian Kelly and Tom Wilkins on 21 points.
