Spread the word

Ratepayers, we need your help to spread the word as the coming council elections
may be your first and last chance to voice your opinion on the new bridge
site.

VicRoads have clearly used bullying tactics , indicating to councillors
that if they do not accept VicRoads preferred option of 9A that they may have to
wait an indefinite period for a new bridge.

Now that the Mobil and Shell
depots have been removed, it is quite clear that the 4B option has a clear and
unobstructed route from Moulamein Road to the Curlewis Street/Pye Street
intersection, with very little inconvenience to anyone during construction.

In the Federal Square area of the 4B bridge option, two concrete piers would
be required , there would be less soil disturbance during their installation
than has already been undertaken during the recent demolition of the two fuel
depot structures.

We presently have a fabulous resource in the family
friendly Riverside Park.

In the summer, parents can enjoy the area with
their children and have the option to visit the nearby swimming pool or
waterslide to cool down.

Parents can remain untroubled in the knowledge that
their children are quite safe with an appropriate level of relaxed supervision
and they can all benefit from the enjoyment of a family outing.

However,
consider this same scenario with the addition of the 9A bridge option dissecting
the park in two (and sending heavy traffic directly into the centre of the
township).

Now parents are in a situation where they may choose to avoid
this location due to the risk it poses to visibility of children because they
will not know if they are at the toilets, playing behind a tree or on the
highway.

The swimming pool and waterslide are presently at the heart of this
resource and it is fairly evident that it has a good 20 to 30 year lifespan
remaining.

With much better maintenance materials now available, it could in
fact be 50 years before this would need replacing.

By retaining its present
location, when the need to replace this facility does arise, we would be
maintaining the integrity of an attractive family friendly park/pool resource in
to the future.
