MICHAEL Adamson has played squash for more than 20 years.
An initial game
with his father-in-law, Max Hicks, turned into a two-year quest to beat him, and
Adamson hasn’t stopped playing since.
Adamson said yesterday that he enjoyed
the game from the start.
“I played with my father-in-law who was an avid
squash player and I really enjoyed the ability to have a good 1.5 hour exercise
and feel like you’ve worked hard,” he said.
“But I was determined to beat
Max, and it took two years,” he laughed.
“He’d stand in the middle of the
court and I’d run around sweating and couldn’t work it out.”
Adamson said he
was about 25 when he first played squash in Melbourne, where he grew up before
moving to Swan Hill about 10 years ago.
He said squash was a “fantastic
sport”.
“It’s very intense, and it’s personal so it’s about you and your own
ability,” Adamson said.
“It terms of aerobic fitness, you need a high level
of fitness — you’re running most of the time.”
