Bounty dates open for foxes and wild dogs

AGRICULTURE Victoria has released dates for remaining fox and wild dog bounty collection sessions this year.

The Victorian Government invested $6.7 million in the 2020-21 State Budget to continue the fox and wild dog bounty until 2024 and the program offers an incentive to eligible Victorian hunters to encourage community participation in fox and wild dog management.

A wild dog is defined as a feral dog, a dog-run-wild or a dingo-dog hybrid and Victoria’s north-west has one of two significant wild dog populations in the state.

Acceptable entire fox scalps and entire wild dog body parts will be collected from hunters at collection centres.

Wild dog body parts are collected only at appointments, which can be made by calling the customer service centre on 136 186.

Appointments can also be made for the Horsham or Ouyen collection centres at the scheduled collection times for fox scalps at these sites.

Each collection centre follows COVID restrictions and hunters must comply with COVIDSafe principles including using the QR code to check in, physical distancing, good hygiene practices and wearing a face mask indoors and outdoors, unless there is a lawful exemption.

Hunters are reminded to use common sense when attending bounty collections.

The collection schedule is subject to change in response to the COVID-19 situation. Electronic funds transfer is the preferred method of payment.
