Local dancers hit the stage

Aspiring dancers from across our region flocked to the Swan Hill Town Hall last week to audition for the Victorian State Ballet’s upcoming production of Cinderella.

The classical ballet class audition saw almost 40 girls and boys plié, pirouette and chassé their way across the stage for the opportunity to perform alongside professional ballet dancers.

Successful applicants will fill the roles of young Cinderella, young Prince Charming, the two young step-sisters and fairies during the onenight only performance in Swan Hill on August 4.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Venue and Performing Arts manager Yvette Myhill said she was thrilled with the number of applicants for the audition.

“We’re really excited to provide these sort of opportunities for local young people,” Ms Myhill said.

“Having the chance to perform on stage with the Victorian State Ballet is extremely rare and would be a dream come true for any ballet dancer.

“To sit in the audience and see local faces up on the stage will be incredible, I can’t wait for the performance.”

Ms Nyhill added she hoped more opportunities like this would be available for young people in Swan Hill in the future.

“We actively search for dance and theatre productions that will provide more community engagement,” she said.

The Victorian State Ballet was established in 2003 by Local dancers hit the stage professional dancers Martin and Michelle Sierra.

In the past, the company have overseen productions of Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Snow White.

The company’s production of Cinderella brings one of the most timeless and beloved fairytale classics to the stage.

Featuring internationally recognised artists in leading roles, the story is retold through classical ballet techniques and choreography which honour the spirit of the original story.
