Motocross show storms town

SWAN Hill’s Jed Polomka has finished seventh overall for the final round and ninth overall for the championship of the Victorian Senior Motocross Championships at Chislom Reserve at the weekend.

The Swan Hill Motorcycle Club rider was just one of the best motocross riders from across Victoria and Australia who attended the event in the Mallee on Saturday and Sunday.

Swan Hill Motorcycle Club president Greg O’Bree was very happy and relieved with how the penultimate round of the state’s premier motocross competition for senior riders proceeded.

“Track preparation was spot on. We had rain on Friday night which made things a little bit wet but as the day progressed on Saturday the track dried up and by the end of the day the track was perfect like it was on Sunday,” he said.

“The riders were extremely happy on both days and the local crowd was treated to some sensational riding.”

For Polomka, it was a good weekend all round.

He said he was always confident and was happy with his hometown performances.

“It wasn’t a bad weekend at all,” he said.

“Going into the round, I wanted to finish inside the top 10 and come out safe so I did that and I’m really happy with where I finished.

“The track was a bit muddy in the morning on Saturday but only because of the rain.

“Some awesome lines started to form during the races — it was probably the best track I’ve ever ridden.”

Jed is currently leading the 250cc B Grade class in the 2016 Northern Region MX Series with two rounds to go and he is also planning on competing in the 2016 MX Nationals at Shepparton on Sunday, July 31.

Another Swan Hill MC member Kale Makeham finished first in the Pro Lites class.

Brenton Keep won the A Open class for the round, finishing nineteenth overall, and Jake Shadbolt finished third for the round in the B Open, finishing in 24th-place.

“We had some good results from all of our local riders and the event was a great result for everyone this weekend,” Mr O’Bree continued.

The next event at Swan Motorcycle Club will be Round 6 of the 2016 Northern Region MX Series on August 14.
