THERE were perfect conditions for Round 14 of the Mallee Football League on Saturday.
Tigers def Cats
SEA Lake Nandaly was too strong for Woomelang Lascelles at Woomelang on Saturday, with the Tigers quick to stamp their authority on the game.
A three-goal-to-one first quarter saw the Tigers set the tone for the match and gave the players some momentum as they put on five goals to one in the second term.
A handy 32-point half-time lead would have been quickly wiped away had the Cats been able to get a couple of quick goals, but it was still the Tigers who had the answers and extended their lead.
The final quarter was a tight tussle as both sides kicked four goals each, but it was too little too late as the Tigers recorded a 44-point victory.
Tigers Cliff Ryan and Zac May were the goalkickers with four and three, and Colin Durie and Jordan Doering were the better players.
Corey Kelly and Jamie Church each kicked two goals for the Cats and were named in the best with Rohan Coburn.
Demons def Devils
OUYEN United had the better of Hopetoun at Ouyen on Saturday.
Intensity was high as both sides traded shots on goal and scores were locked on 3.1 apiece at the first break.
The home side was able to break free of the shackles in the second term, slamming on five goals to the Devils’ two, to take a 19-point lead into the long break.
The second half of the match opened up and the Demons were able to control much of the play.
Hopetoun was unable to match the intensity from the first half as the Demons slowly extended their lead.
When the final siren blew, Ouyen United claimed victory by 34 points.
For the Demons, Relton Roberts kicked five goals, while Dom Leach and Peter Caldow kicked two each.
Marc Hahnel and Andrew Jardine were named in the best for the Dees.
For Hopetoun, Ben Webster kicked three goals and Jackson Fisher and Simon Cook both booted two.
Better players for the Devils included Liam Price and Thomas Luff.
Roos def Lakers
JEPARIT Rainbow was no match for Walpeup Underbool at Underbool on Saturday.
The Roos wasted no time in letting the Lakers know what their intentions were, as they put on a clinic, scoring 8.5 without reply in the first quarter.
The Lakers didn’t just roll over though, as they staged a fight back in the second stanza, and they put on 3.3 to the Roos’ single behind.
Despite the effort from the Lakers, the Roos still held a 33-point half-time lead.
The third quarter followed the trend of the first, as the Roos dominated the play and put on another five unanswered goals and blew out the deficit.
The final quarter tightened right up as both sides traded goal for goal.
In the end it was the Roos who sang the song, as they recorded a 66-point victory.
Kane Munro was best on ground for the Roos with a 10 goal game, and was joined in the best by Travis Latta and Matthew Brown.
Jeparit Rainbow had no multiple goal kickers, while Wyatt Bacon and Elliott Bath were named in their best.
