MOULAMEIN residents are staying put despite the New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES) asking locals to leave.
The town was still active with farmers building their own levee banks and sand bagging operations underway.
While schools in the area and the Murray River Council has closed in the district, those remaining believe the evacuation order was a knee jerk reaction.
The Edward River is expected to peak on Thursday where damage can be assessed, while a handful of farmers have already suffered losses to flood waters on their properties.
After a town meeting on Saturday afternoon, the SES called upon residents to leave to which only an estimated 40 people listened.
