TESSA Lavey’s start to the Rio Olympics has been impressive with the point-guard playing a role in her side’s 61-56 victory over Turkey earlier this week.
The Perth Lynx captain was on court for 14 minutes where she shot at 40 per cent from the field, scoring two baskets from five attempts.
The 23-year-old scored a simple basket in the paint, but did damage to the Turkish hopes when she pulled back and fired a successful three point shot late in the match.
She took home a six-point haul after converting one free throw, but it was her work off the ball which would have impressed the coaches.
She took three defensive rebounds, secured three assists for teammates to score and stole the ball from the Turkish on one occasion.
Lavey and her teammates sat in top spot in group A after two games, with the undefeated sides of Japan and France breathing down the neck of the Opals.
On the other side of the draw, the United States and Canada lead the way, also remaining undefeated in their outings in group B.
This morning, Lavey and her Opals teammates took on France and will now look to bring down Japan on Friday morning.
