THE Swan Hill show office has been a hive of activity in the lead-up to this year’s event.
Set to celebrate the region’s 126th show, exhibits are starting to roll in for what promises to be another action-packed two days.
Reg Packer will mark his 11th year as show society president, and he’s calling on the support of the wider Swan Hill community in a bid to make this year’s event another huge success.
“Entries make the show,” Mr Packer said.
“I urge everyone to get their hands on a schedule and have a go.”
The show will feature everything from artworks and photography to horticulture and farm produce.
Whether you enjoy cooking up a storm in the kitchen, pottering around the garden or dabbling in a hobby or craft, Mr Packer is urging all residents, regardless of their age or ability, to sign up.
“There’s a sense of joy from putting something together and entering the show,” Mr Packer said.
This year the show committee has moved to an online booking system with entrants urged to submit their entries via the show’s website.
“You don’t have to be computer savvy to use the system,” Mr Packer said.
“Help is available to anyone who may need a hand with placing their entries and the show office is now open daily.”
Mr Packer said the show had made a strong comeback last year following two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
He said the event continued to evolve and play an important role within the community.
“Not only does it highlight the region’s vibrant agricultural history but the show provides a venue for the region to come together, socialise, compete and celebrate,” Mr Packer said.
Whitfield Excavations has jumped on board as the show’s platinum event sponsor this year.
“We’re very grateful for all of our fantastic sponsors who have helped finance this year’s event,” Mr Packer said.
He also praised the efforts of the show committee, sub committees and many volunteers who contributed to the event each year.
“Without them our show wouldn’t be such a success,” he said.
“We could always do with more volunteers.”
This year’s line-up of entertainment includes a virtual reality harvester, Noah’s Thoroughbred Racing Pigs, Wicked Wildlife, Animals of the Magic Mountain, the Golden City Pipe Band and Southern Cross Fireworks.
“It’s going to be a great event with something for everyone,” Mr Packer said.
Gates will open at 9am on both days and close at 9pm on the Friday and 5pm on the Saturday.
