Lake Boga Pub auction helps family

EVERY item in an auction at Lake Boga Pub was sold as the community came together in support of a local family’s battle with Crohn’s disease.

Lake Boga resident Kelly Robertson has been in hospital for several weeks with the disease.

Local businesses and community members gathered at the pub earlier this month for an open mic, and the auction, where all proceeds went to the Robertsons to help with the cost of travel, parking and accommodation for the family’s visits to Bendigo and Melbourne.

Even though Ms Robertson was not able to be there, her message thanking the community was read out.

”The Robertson family would like to thank everybody for their thoughtfulness and generosity, and donations,” Ms Robertson said.

”They have touched our hearts and it means so much.

“Thank you to the Lake Boga community for getting on board and donating all items to be auctioned off.

“And thank you for all the calls and messages checking in to see how we all are, it means the world.”

Organiser Kathy Wilde said the pub was crowded with locals who were on board to support the Robertsons.

“The pub was packed shoulder-to-shoulder,” Ms Wilde said.

“People enjoyed the night and sang their hearts out for open mic.

“Brent was really overwhelmed and thanked people for their support. Everybody got a bit emotional.”

Ms Wilde said it was great to see the community support the Robertsons amid cost-of-living pressure.

“So many people and businesses are struggling at the moment, so for people to dig deep into their pockets and their heart means a lot,” she said.

“Everybody had an opportunity to get something because we were selling some affordable items as well.

“But some people actually ended up bidding more than they should have.”
